Google announces improvements to its search engine and updated iOS app

GoogleGoogle has announced that it changed the underlying technology of its search engine to Hummingbird about a month ago. This change makes it possible for Google to answer more complex questions.

There is a new comparison feature in Knowledge Graph can be used to compare foods, dog breeds, planets and many other objects. A new filter feature can be used in search results to, for example, view only impressionist or abstract artists.

Google has also announced it will update its search app for iOS in the next couple of weeks. The update will add the new card-based UI that Google has been copying across its services. It will also add device-wide notifications and voice reminders. Learn more on the Inside Search blog here.

Recently, Google added hashtag support in the US and Canada. For example, when searching for #hashtags, the right side of search results may contain Google+ posts shared with the user or shared publicly with that tag. Learn more in the Google+ post here.
